Nick Diaz: The Strikeforce Welterweight Champion as a Pulp Fiction Detective

In addition to the good versus evil storytelling that Pulp Fiction was based on, the covers of the early pulp novels were pure works of art. These covers have been getting some attention as of late, being compiled into books and gracing some more forward-thinking museums, but they still remain some of the most overlooked pieces of truly American artwork.

Recently, Rev. Dave Johnson posted a Pulp Fiction novel cover on his website, based on Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz.

From the artist’s website:

“So the MMA fighter I picked is Nick Diaz. He got a face only a pulp artist could love. I mean seriously, even when Nick is happy he still looks like he could kill you at any moment. And he’s one of the No. 1 fighters out there today. So it seemed only natural to make him a pulp novel character. Enjoy the manliness.”

As far as MMA fighters are concerned, Diaz is a perfect choice for this type of art.

Don’t agree?

Imagine Georges St-Pierre as a hard-boiled detective living out of his office, and wearing the same crumpled suit for two weeks straight because it’s the only one he owns. Pretty far fetched, right? But Diaz, not nearly as much of a stretch.

Props to the good folks over at Middle Easy for the find.
