Former UFC bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt will have to wait until next year to get back into the Octagon, as “No Love” suffered a torn tendon in training last week and will require surgery.
Garbrandt’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, recently broke the news via text to MMA Junkie.
This isn’t the first injury that has sidelined Garbrandt for an extended period of time as the bantamweight fighter suffered a painful back injury in 2017. The ailment forced his first title fight with former UFC champion T.J. Dillashaw to be rescheduled and left “No Love” searching for some powerful treatment.
Also, Garbrandt was just cleared to return to action after recovering from wrist and hand injuries this past July. The former UFC champion had plans to return this November against the likes of Dominick Cruz, Raphael Assuncao, or surging Russian youngster Petr Yan.
Those plans will have to wait though after Garbrandt’s most recent injury. But maybe the extended time off will be a blessing in disguise as the 28-year-old is coming off three consecutive knockout losses.
At least “No Love” isn’t going to be out of action as long as his rival.
