After having his right arm snapped by Frank Mir in their rematch last Saturday night in Toronto, Ontario, UFC heavyweight Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira will not have to undergo surgery according to Dr. John Itamura.

After flying ‘Big Nog’ to Los Angeles, California officials for the Ultimate Fighting Championship Tweeted (@ufc) the news on Monday evening, and that according according to Dr. John Itamura, he’d be back in nine months time.

Doctor’s report: surgery not necessary for Big Nog -he’ll have adjustable plastic brace using an ultrasound device 2x/day for 20 mins.

Dr. John Itamura believes Big Nog will be back in the Octagon in no more than 9 months

Nogueira faced Mir in the co-main event of UFC 140 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Dec. 10, losing by first round submission.

‘Big Nog’ had Mir rocked with a solid punch, but was unable to finish the former champ. During the ensuing scramble, Mir would end up in top position with Nogueira’s right arm in a Kimura submission. The Brazilian refused to tap and Mir felt he was forced to apply more pressure to end the fight, breaking Nogueira’s arm to stop the bout at 3:38 of the round.
