After the recent flap between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the Holland based Golden Glory gym, which saw fighters Jon Olav Einemo, Valentijn Overeem, and former women’s champ Marloes Coenen cut from both Zuffa owned promotions, news that one of them had been re-signed was announced on Wednesday by UFC President Dana White.
During Wednesday’s UFC 135 pre-fight press conference, White announced the return of Norwegian heavyweight Jon Olav Einemo (6-2) to the UFC.
No date for his return was mentioned for ‘The Viking’s’ return, or an opponent but this news follows on the heels that one of his teammates, middleweight Siyar Bahadurzada (20-4-1), had been offered a contract with the UFC. Bahadurzada posted a message on Twitter (@SiyarTheKiller) that he’d been offered a contract but was deciding on whether to sign.
– I’m offered a UFC contract, but nothing is signed yet. My team & I will discuss it & let you know when it’s signed! Thanks for ur patience!
Golden Glory has also seen some turmoil, as one of their best known fighters, Alistair Overeem recently announced his split with his longtime gym.
Einemo, an ADCC champ and the only man to submit Roger Gracie during a tournament, made his Octagon debut last June in Vancouver, Canada at UFC 131. There he battled Dave Herman on the main card in a bout that earned both men the “Fight of the Night” honor. In the end it was Herman who would score a victory with a second round TKO.
