UFC women’s bantamweight Josiane Nunes was ecstatic with her knockout win over Bea Malecki last Saturday.
Not many moments can feel better for an MMA fighter than debuting in the UFC with a first-round knockout win. At UFC Vegas 34, bantamweight prospect Josiane Nunes got to experience the feeling when she picked up a one-punch KO victory over then undefeated Bea Malecki.
Now with one UFC fight under her belt, the Brazilian tells Combate how everything went down according to plan in her fight. Although Nunes now wants to take some time off to rest, she does not plan to sit out for too long and plans to go back to the Octagon sooner rather than later.
“I’m really happy with that win,” Nunes said. “I couldn’t have had a better debut. It was a great win and I’m really happy about it. I had been training hard for that. I don’t mean to undermine my opponent, but I was confident I would score a knockout in that fight.
“I listened to my coaches,” Nunes continued. “We had been training for that for months. I just did what they said. I’ve always done that in my fights, so I did the same thing in that one. I just want to fight again. Take some time off to rest and fight soon.”
The win over Malecki extended Nunes’ (8-1) streak to seven in a row, with six knockouts on the Brazilian regional circuit. The 27-year-old’s sole loss happened in November 2013, in her second professional bout, when she dropped a unanimous decision to fellow UFC fighter Taila Santos.
