Charles Oliveira predicts a submission win over Dustin Poirier at UFC 269.

Charles Oliveira predicts a submission victory over Dustin Poirier in his first defense of the UFC lightweight title, claiming he is superior to ‘The Diamond’ on the feet as well as the mat.

The newly-minted champ, who submitted Michael Chandler to nab the vacant 155-pound title at UFC 262, acknowledges Poirier is a ‘dangerous’ opponent but is confident he has the tools to shut the Louisianan down.

“I would submit Poirier,” Oliveira told Sherdog when asked about the outcome of his targeted title fight against Poirier. “Poirier is one of the most dangerous guys of the lightweight division. Always walks forward, but I think I’m at a different level, both in striking and also in the ground.”

The fight isn’t a done deal yet (Poirier is currently going back-and-forth with Nate Diaz on social media), but Oliveira is willing to fight whoever the UFC selects as his next opponent.

“My main concern is be ready to face any challenger [the] UFC chooses, and that’s what I’m gonna be in December, against Poirier or any other.”

Oliveira vs. Poirier is on tap for UFC 269, which is scheduled to take place later this year, Dec. 11 at a TBA location. The pay-per-view is also expected to feature a women’s bantamweight title bout between reigning 135-pound and 145-pound queen Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena.
