Tito Ortiz says he saved Jon Jones a fight with Chuck Liddell and wished the former champ good luck in his rematch with Gustafsson.

When Chuck Liddell first announced that he would be coming out of retirement, ‘The Iceman’ had his sights set on a superfight with former pound-for-pound No. 1 Jon Jones.

Instead, Liddell accepted a trilogy bout with longtime rival Tito Ortiz under Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and went on to suffer what would be his fourth consecutive knockout loss.

Following the fight, ‘Bones’ immediately stated that he would ‘never’ respond to any more of Liddell’s callouts and Ortiz followed up with a tweet of his own.

‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ tweeted to Jones that he had taken care of his ‘light work’ and wished the former light heavyweight champion the best of luck in his highly anticipated rematch with Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232.

Ortiz announced at the Golden Boy Promotions post-fight press conference that he would be retiring for good. Whereas Liddell, who suffered the worst loss of his career, teased that he may continue fighting.

UFC 232: Jones vs. Gustafsson II takes place next month, Dec. 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
