After being suspended for one year by United States Anti Doping Agency (USADA) for testing positive for ostarine and GW1516, Rachael Ostovich is ready to mount her mixed marital arts (MMA) comeback.
According to MMA Junkie, Ostovich is in line to face off against Gina Mazany at a planned UFC “Fight Night” event on Nov. 28, 2020, likely to go down inside UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada.
If you are wondering why Ostovich is booked to fight in November instead of in January — which is when her one-year ban should have ended — it’s due to the fact that several months were shaved off her sentence “due to time served under a provisional suspension in the latter half of 2019 for an atypical finding,” according to USADA.
“Consistent with other cases with similar circumstances, USADA determined that a small reduction from the default two-year period of ineligibility was justified. Ostovich-Berdon received an additional reduction to the otherwise applicable period of ineligibility for her Full and Complete Cooperation.”
Ostovich was last seen losing to Paige VanZant at UFC on ESPN 1 this past January, which was her second straight loss after previously losing to Montana De La Rosa — also via submission — in July of 2018. Mazany, meanwhile, is coming off a first round knockout loss to Julia Avila a few months ago.
The event is set to be headlined by a pivotal Heavyweight showdown between Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis, which could determine the next title contender in the division … after Jon Jones, of course.
