We are just four weeks away from Jake Paul (3-0, 3 KOs) welcoming former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley into the pro boxing ranks. This fight will be the first of Paul’s new deal with Showtime Sports, and we now have a price point and undercard details.
It’s long been known that the co-main event will be a super-featherweight title bout between Amanda Serrano (40-1-1, 30 KOs) and Yamileth Mercado (18-2, 5 KOs), but this pay-per-view will have four undercard matchups on the PPV broadcast. Former IBF junior welterweight champion Ivan Baranchyk (20-2, 13 KOs) will return to the ring for the first time since his absurd eight-knockdown classic with Jose Zepeda. His opponent will be Montana Love (15-0-1, 7 KOs) in what is Love’s first ten-rounder and the biggest fight of his career.
British heavyweight prospect Daniel Dubois (16-1, 15 KOs) gets a stay-busy bout against journeyman Joe Cusumano (19-3, 17 KOs). Dubois’ only loss is to fellow countryman Joe Joyce and he’s coming off a knockout win against veteran Bogdan Dinu.
The opening PPV bout will be Tommy Fury (6-0, 4 KOs), the half-brother of heavyweight champ Tyson Fury, taking on MMA veteran Anthony Taylor (7-5 MMA, 0-1 boxing) in a six-round catchweight at 180 lbs. Taylor was one of Jake Paul’s sparring partners prior to the Ben Askren match. There’s also been talk of Jake eventually fighting Tommy Fury, so there’s that.
Serrano and Baranchyk are the fun parts of the undercard. Dubois against Cusumano feels like a waste of time but if you’ve never seen him before you might be intrigued.
As for the price? Stephen Espinoza revealed it to MMA Fighting.
“It’s $59.99,” Espinoza said. “That reflects a couple of things. It’s in the ballpark of where similar fights have been. It is at a point below a lot of other higher priced PPVs, but in particular on this one, I think you’ve got a full boxing card of exciting young fighters. That was the key.”
So $60 is the price for Paul vs. Woodley on August 29th in Cleveland. The main event will be an eight-rounder at a 190 lbs catchweight.
