Mike Perry’s run as an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Welterweight has been anything but stellar, racking up seven wins to go along with seven defeats since making his Octagon debut in 2016.
Over his last nine outings he is just 3-6, though his record hasn’t done much to his stock in the eyes of UFC President Dana White, who is keen on keeping “Platinum” around despite his troubles outside of the Octagon and scale fails because at the end of the day, Perry comes to bang and is fun to watch.
After coming up short against Time Means at UFC 255 last November, Perry is in line to make his return to face Daniel Rodriguez at a scheduled “Fight Night” event on April 10. That’s according to MMA Fighting, who revealed that the fight has been agreed upon though the promotion has yet to make it official.
With things not looking so good for the 170-pound scrapper, “Platinum” hinted at the potential move to Middleweight on social media, and he already has a few potential foes in mind.
“I would like to fight at middleweight 185 lbs. There are three competitors that come to mind. Joaquin Buckley, Kevin Holland and Darren Till,” he wrote on Twitter.
Perry and Till have a hot-and-cold friendship with the two men hurling insults and threats at one another at some point, though they are cordial enough to take part in a online video chats in an MMA bromance we didn’t know we needed.
As for a fight against Holland, that may prove tough to lock down because “Trailblazer” is on a different level at the moment, winning five straight inside the Octagon, including his most recent memorable knockout of Ronald Souza (see it here). Furthermore, his is in line to face Derek Brunson next month. A fight against Buckley seems more ideal because “New Mansa” is coming off a loss to Alessio Di Chirico and isn’t ranked in the Top 15.
For now, Perry will stick to 170 pounds and he will have a stiff test ahead of him because Rodriguez has racked up a respectable 3-1 record so far in his young UFC career, though he did come up short in his most recent fight against Nicolas Dalby, also at UFC 255.
