Fresh off his destruction of Vitor Belfort, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza was the prime candidate to replace Chris Weidman at UFC 199 next month.
However, a torn right meniscus forced Souza to turn the rematch down, opening the door for Michael Bisping’s first attempt at becoming UFC champion.
Souza suffered the injury prior to the fight with Belfort at UFC 198, but was still able to finish the former champion.
