Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champion, Junior dos Santos, was forced to withdraw from his UFC Moscow main event against Alexander Volkov after contracting a skin infection that left him hospitalized for over a week.

More on that turn of events right here.

With “Cigano” benched for the foreseeable future, the promotion has called upon Greg Hardy to fill in. The “Prince of War” will battle “Drago” in the Moscow co-main event after the Zabit Magomedsharipov vs. Calvin Kattar showdown was promoted to headliner.

Check out these gnarly photos the Brazilian shared to Instagram:

The drain is to help clear the wound of bacterial discharge.

“I thought I would heal in the right time, and I would be able to go to the fight, but they said ‘no, you’re crazy,’” Dos Santos told Kevin Iole. “Because even if you go, even if you get better, you’re going to Russia, to like another far away … if anything happens, you have nobody there to take care of you, and if you get hit on top of this thing, you can lose your leg at the minimum.”

It’s been a rough couple of years for the battle-weary Dos Santos, 35, who is no stranger to Brazilian hospital beds. “Cigano” recently had surgery on his shoulder, his knee, and his nose, all within a span of four years.

A timetable for his Octagon return has yet to be established.
