One of the premier fights making its way to “Fight Island” later this fall is a crucial bantamweight clash between former title challenger Marlon Moraes and hungry contender Cory Sandhagen. The two will headline the upcoming UFC Fight Island 5 event on Oct. 10 live on ESPN+ from inside Flash Forum in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
For Moraes, this is a huge opportunity to prove he’s still one of the best fighters at 135 pounds after losing his first UFC title shot to Henry Cejudo via TKO last year. The fighter known has “Magic” sports one of the most well-rounded arsenals in the division today, whether it’s his explosive striking or dangerous grappling. Moraes is coming off a split-decision win over Jose Aldo last December so a win over Sandhagen could be all he needs for another shot at UFC gold.
Sandhagen, on the other hand, is coming off a quick submission loss to Aljamain Sterling this past June. Prior to that loss to “Funk Master,” Sandhagen had won his first five trips to the Octagon, including victories over veterans John Lineker and Raphael Assuncao. Despite his recent hiccup the 28-year-old remains one of the more promising contenders at 135 pounds and will set himself up nicely for 2021 with a win over Moraes.
In advance to the bantamweight headliner, UFC has released the official fight poster for “Moraes vs. Sandhagen,” which can be seen below:
