“If I choose to fight again, I’ll be back strong. If not I’ll see what God has in store for me.”
Dustin Poirier is so crushed by his UFC 242 title loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov, that the former interim lightweight champion is considering hanging up the gloves and calling it a career.
The 30-year-old said he will be haunted by this loss for the rest of his life and, in a recent post on social media, ‘The Diamond’ revealed he is having second thoughts over his fighting future.

“Thank you guys for the support, it means a lot to me,” Poirier said in the video, per Fernando Quiles Jr. of MMA News. “If I choose to fight again, I’ll be back strong. If not I’ll see what God has in store for me.”
Poirier headed into UFC 242 riding a four fight win streak against three former — and one current — champions, and the American Top Team product (ATT) genuinely believed it was his destiny to beat Nurmagomedov and rule the UFC lightweight throne for many years to come. Unfortunately, however, Poirier was thoroughly dominated and submitted in what was arguably the most lopsided defeat of his career, which is why the Louisianan is taking things so hard on himself.
Khabib, who extended his record to 28-0, is expected to defend his title against former interim champ Tony Ferguson in the new year.
