Despite winning his last six Octagon appearances at 155 pounds, Brazilian veteran Michel Prazeres will be moving up in weight to take on welterweight staple Zak Cummings at UFC Fight Night 129 on May 19 live on FOX Sports 1 from inside Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile.
The bout was originally reported by Cage of Bones before Cummings announced the matchup himself via Instagram.
Prazeres, 36, has produced a 8-2 record since entering the promotion back in 2013. The stocky Brazilian has captured key victories over notable combatants Gilbert Burns, Desmond Green, Josh Burkman and Mairbek Taisumov, while losing only to Kevin Lee and Paulo Thiago. After missing weight three out of his last four bouts, Prazeres will take his talents to the welterweight level.
Cummings, 33, is coming off back-to-back submission wins over Nathan Coy and Alexander Yakovlev. The former Ultimate Fighter standout hasn’t won more than two in a row as a member of the UFC roster so he’ll look to break that trend against Prazeres this May. It will mark the fourth time in seven fights that Cummings is competing outside of the U.S.
UFC Fight Night 129 is expected to be headlined by a welterweight showdown between rising title contenders Santiago Ponzinibbio and Kamaru Usman. In the co-main event, former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua will take on divisional knockout artist Volkan Oezdemir.
