It all goes down later tonight (Sun., Aug. 29, 2021) live on FITE pay-per-view (PPV) from inside Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, as former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley tests his luck at boxing against social media influencer Jake Paul.
Like it or not, this is one of the most anticipated combat events of the year. The hype around this fight has been building for months and the bad blood between Paul and Woodley seem to be real. Both fighters made weight on Saturday and both are aiming for a devastating finish inside of the ring on Sunday.
That said, there is a lot to dissect here. Woodley is a former UFC champion about to fight a social media influencer trying to become a professional fighter. It seems almost automatic that Woodley slumps Paul on arrival and puts an end to all of this hoopla. However, Woodley has never tried his hand at boxing, he’s 15 years older than Paul, and he’s coming off four-straight losses inside of the Octagon.
On the other hand, Paul has zero big-fight experience and has shown little over the three fights he’s had to make us believe he’s going to defeat a former world champion. The 24-year-old star did make quick work of Ben Askren earlier this year, but “Funky” is the furthest thing from an established MMA striker.
In any case, tonight’s main event is going to answer a lot of questions and hopefully it will deliver memorable action to make the $60 PPV price tag worth it. You can check out the full fight video preview above to get all the coverage you need heading into the fight.
MMAmania will deliver LIVE coverage of tonight’s main card. The $59.99 Showtime/FITE PPV kicks off at 8:00 PM ET, with Paul and Woodley likely to make the walk closer to 11:30 PM ET.
