During his appearance on the Three Amigos podcast, UFC middleweight fighter Gegard Mousasi (38-6-2) commented on Dan Henderson reportedly getting a title shot with newly crowned middleweight champion Michael Bisping in October. According to Mousasi, he doesn’t think it makes sense for Henderson to get a title shot not only because he is on a one fight winning streak but because of the dangerous fighters that could be challenging Bisping instead.
“It doesn’t make sense at all. I think Jacare is next in line, and maybe Yoel Romero when he comes back. Chris Weidman should be in the running for a fight or Anderson Silva. Even Georges St-Pierre wants to fight him. It really doesn’t make sense, but this sport is not about who earns it or not, it’s just about who is more popular or who is gonna do better pay-per-views. It’s entertainment, and it’s not so fair that way.”
Looking ahead, Mousasi (38-6-2) is set to fight Thiago Santos (13-3) at UFC 200 in a middleweight bout and believes that Santos is a dangerous opponent that he cannot underestimate.
“He’s on a winning streak, he’s confident, and he comes to fight, so he’s a guy with a lot of momentum behind him. Obviously, he’s hungry, so he’s definitely not an opponent you want to underestimate. That said, things will go my way when the fight happens because I think I’m on another level than him, even if he is dangerous.”
