A lightweight bout appears to be in the works for December’s upcoming UFC 141 event, as TUF 13 finalist Ramsey Nijem (5-2) and Anthony ‘The Assassin’ Njokuani (14-5, 1NC) have reportedly made verbal agreements to meet at the Las Vegas show.
News of the bout comes via MMAjunkie.com, who learned of the matchup from “sources close to the event.”
UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem is scheduled to take place on December 30th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The Nijem vs. Njokuani match is expected to be a part of the nights preliminary card.
Nijem dropped from welterweight to lightweight after losing to Tony Ferguson in the TUF 13 Finale last June. It turned out to be a good career move as he dominated Danny Downes at last months UFC 137 on his way to a unanimous decision victory.
Njokuani moved over to the UFC from the WEC earlier this year with mixed results going 1-1 in the Octagon. Debuting in March, ‘The Assassin’ lost a decision to Edson Barboza at UFC 128, but returned with a one sided victory against Andre Winner at UFC 132. Njoukuani was to have faced Paul Taylor at UFC 138, but an injury to Taylor just days before the event forced officials to scrap the bout entirely.
