Rep: Cris Cyborg is not on steroids, has doctor’s prescription for USADA violation

Innocent until proven juicy.

Invicta FC featherweight champion and part-time Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) headliner, Cristiane Justino, found herself in trouble with United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) on Thursday following a potential violation of the organization’s drug testing policy.

Sure, it’s a sensitive policy, but it’s the only game in town.

“Cyborg” popped for an undisclosed substance during an out-of-competition drug test back on Dec. 5, 2016, roughly two-and-a-half months after her second-round shellacking over Lina Lansberg in Brazil.

Earlier today, a representative for the Brazilian released a statement insisting Justino is not on steroids.

“Not for a steroid, and she has a prescription as part of the post-fight therapy she’s been receiving due to the severe weight cut. This has been known for a few days, and Cris’ doctor has been in direct contact with USADA turning over all the necessary patient files to document the reasons Cris needs the medication.”

Let’s hope it’s not this doctor.

Not every fighter who pops gets suspended. and “Cyborg” recently documented a torturous weight cut — replete with birth control pills — that nearly killed her while making 140 pounds.

More on that drama here.

Unfortunately for Justino, she already has a previous suspension for steroids on her professional record, which will undoubtedly make it harder to convince mixed martial arts (MMA) fans that everything is on the up and up.

Especially after years of this.

Expect much more on this still-developing story in the coming weeks, if not days.
