Georges St-Pierre to announce his retirement soon, according to a new report that has surfaced online.

On Wednesday, the UFC announced that they would be holding an event in Ottawa on May 4th. The promotion is slated to hold a press conference on February 21st.

This is where GSP will announce his retirement from the sport of MMA at the Bell Centre in Montreal. Aaron Bronsteter of TSN shared the news via Twitter, crediting Benoit Beaudoin with the initial report.

It was noted in the report that GSP’s decision to retire comes after failed negotiations between St-Pierre and the UFC for a fight that would see him compete against lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

This was a fight that the former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion has shown interest in accepting.

St-Pierre went on record before his last fight by saying that the reason he is returning to MMA to cement his legacy as one of the all-time greats in the sport. He fought once and then stepped aside due to an illness.

The former UFC welterweight and middleweight champion returned to competition in November of 2017. This was after four years away from the sport to win the middleweight title.

The ending of that fight went down with a submission victory in the third round over Michael Bisping at UFC 217. However, shortly after the fight, he had to vacate the title. The reason was due to him dealing with colitis.
