It seems Mike Perry won’t be moving to middleweight, as he faces Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Fight Night 189.

The UFC is working on a welterweight fight between Mike Perry and Daniel Rodriguez for an event on April 13th.

Fighter Path first reported the news, though the UFC is yet to confirm the fight. The announcement comes less than a day after Perry teased a move to middleweight on social media, calling out Joaquin Buckley, Kevin Holland and Darren Till for a fight.

Perry (14-7) has struggled of late, with only one win in his last four appearances. “Platinum” dropped a decision to Tim Means last November and also overstepped the welterweight mark by 5.5lbs for the bout.

Rodriguez (13-2) made an instant impact in his UFC debut last February, submitting the gritty veteran Means to win a $50,000 bonus. “D-Rod” went on to win his next two fights before losing to Nicholas Dalby in November. The 34-year-old won his fight on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019 but was not awarded a UFC contract.

UFC Fight Night 189 on Apr. 13th is expected to be headlined by a middleweight fight between Darren Till and Marvin Vettori.
