Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey may return to mixed martial arts (MMA) earlier than expected. In fact, “Rowdy” is already in talks for a potential title fight against Amanda Nunes later this year.

From ESPN:

Rousey’s trainer, Edmond Tarverdyan, told ESPN that a fight with reigning UFC bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes has been discussed for Dec. 30 in Las Vegas, but that no decision has been made yet as she works her way back into form following a minor knee surgery this summer.

That would put her in the UFC 207 pay-per-view (PPV) main event.

It may explain why Nunes, who has not been scheduled for her first title defense after capturing the crown back in July, is still on hold.

Rousey stepped away from the fight game in late 2015, after Holly Holm knocked her silly and stripped her of the bantamweight strap. The Olympian later took some additional time off to fulfill her obligations outside the Octagon, with the understanding that she would make her way back to UFC in 2017.

Until a final decision is made, all we (and the rest of the contenders) can do is wait.
