After months of mere speculation, the clouds are finally clearing up on Jon Jones’ heavyweight run.

Last week, UFC president Dana White gave a bit of an update on Jon Jones’ current status. Here’s what the bossman told BT Sport:

Jon Jones has been in the UFC, 10 plus years. Jon Jones and I had the best conversation we’ve ever had about a week ago, and he’s ready. He’s ready to come back. His head’s in the right place, and he and I are in a really good place.

There is some truth to his statement, at least based on this most recent report from ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. “Bones” apparently is being set up for his heavyweight debut in 2021, and he’s getting a high-profile fight right off the bat.

The UFC wants Stipe Miocic to defend the heavyweight title against Francis Ngannou in March… The title fight isn’t a done deal just yet, but that is definitely what the promotion wants, I’m told.

In a perfect world, the UFC would like for the winner of that fight to defend the belt against Jones in the summer, sources said.

Jones had been staying ready and bulking himself up for the bigger boys he’ll be facing. He also expects to showcase his takedown game at heavyweight.
