UFC on FOX 20 headliner Valentina Shevchenko and her coach were present as an armed robbery took place in Peru.

In a report from earlier today from Peruvian outlet RPP, a shootout took place late last night in the Chorillos district in Lima, Peru in a robbery gone sideways.

The incident took place at a local chicken shop as the robbers had ordered the employees to empty out their registers and for patrons to empty their wallets, striking anyone that resisted. UFC fighter Valentina Shevchenko was present, as was her coach Pavel Fedotov, who was armed and opened fire on the robbers as they were fleeing the scene, striking and killing one of them in the process. The other two escaped successfully with an around S/5,000 in Peruvian soles, estimated to be just under $1,500 in US currency.

Unfortunately, Fedotov was also struck by a bullet from one of the assailants, as he was shot in the stomach and rushed to a local hospital. It should be noted that Fedotov is not only one of Shevchenko’s main coaches, he is also married to her sister Antonina, who is an accomplished kickboxer in her own right. Another as-of-yet unidentified store patron was also struck by gunfire and is in hospital care

Shevchenko moved to Peru in 2008 with Fedotov and her sister and has since become a Peruvian citizen after moving there from her native Kyrgistan. She has been living there ever since. Police are investigating the matter. Shevchenko is scheduled to face former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm in the UFC on FOX 20 main event on July 23rd.
