Former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold, is recovering from a slew of injuries that booted him from the upcoming UFC 230 pay-per-view (PPV) event, going down Sat., Nov. 3, 2018 inside Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Replacing him in the co-main event is top contender Ronaldo Souza, who will battle former 185-pound titleholder, Chris Weidman, for the right to lay claim to the division strap. Something Rockhold expects to hear about — ad nauseam — if “All American” prevails.
“Jacare and Chris Weidman, I’ve had to beat the breaks off both of them,” Rockhold told Submission Radio. “We’ll see who comes out on top and where they fall. I think Weidman’s gonna bitch and complain and wait around for a title fight again like he’s been talking, like he deserves it when he’s one in his last four fights, or something like that.”
Rockhold (16-4) stopped Weidman and took his middleweight title at UFC 194 back in late 2015. Prior to that, the part-time model turned away Souza under the Strikeforce banner, part of his run as 185-pound kingpin for Scott Coker and Co.
“I think there’s a chance if something plays out, December 29, it’s not a bad idea,” Rockhold said regarding his Octagon return. “And I know there’s a big card coming at the beginning of the year. There’s a big card I believe on ESPN or something like that back in New York. We’ll see. We’ll see how it all plays out. But I’ll be on my game, I’ll be doing my thing and I’m not looking to take much time off.”
