Ross Pearson and Cub Swanson have agreed to a June 22 featherweight showdown. “Pearson is looking for a second win at 145 to firmly establish himself as a contender by taking on Swanson, who is one of the division’s most battle-tested, exciting fighters,” said UFC president Dana White today.
That announcement was made Thursday at UFC.com identifying the featherweight bout for the upcoming UFC on FX 4 show this June.
Also confirmed was a previously reported bout as TUF finalist Ramsey Nijem welcomes C.J. Keith to the UFC.
UFC on FX 4 is expected to take place on June 22, 2012 at Revel Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This bout is likely to open the main card on FX television as sparks are sure to fly between these two fighters once the bell rings to start the fight.
Pearson will look for his second win after dropping to featherweight in his last bout. The former TUF 9 winner earned a decision over Junior Assuncao last December at UFC 141 after a disappointing 1-2 record over his last three at lightweight. In that stretch, he lost a split decision to Edson Barboza at UFC 134, won a decision against Spencer Fisher at UFC 127, and was submitted by Cole Miller at UFN 22.
Swanson is just 1-1 in the Octagon since moving over from the WEC last year. He stopped George Roop this past January, earning a second round TKO victory at the UFC on FOX 2 show. Swanson debuted in the Octagon against Ricardo Lamas at the first FOX event last November, losing via second round submission.
