The Brazilian Superior Justice Court of MMA has handed down its punishment for Roy Nelson.
According to MMAFighting, Nelson has been suspended nine months and fined $24,000 for kicking referee John McCarthy this past September following his win over Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
The report stated that Nelson could have been suspended for 25 months and fined $40,000. The STJDMMA talked with Nelson before issuing the fine and suspension, to which “Big Country” mentioned concerns over fighting in Brazil because of the fans and his previous issues with McCarthy.
The STJDMMA did give Nelson an opening to have the fine and suspension cut. If he apologizes in public – he made an apology to McCarthy after the post-fight press conference – the fine would be cut to $13,700 and suspension to six months.
