This is one of those bits of news that is more “Rumor” than fact but it’s so damn good that you have to report it anyway.
What set this all off is a post on the Underground Forum board, a quote taken from Toddy Duffee’s (6-1) Facebook page.
-
“Have no plans on NYE?! Dream Dynamite 2010 : Duffee VS Overeem on HDnet!!!”
The link to Todd Duffee’s Facebook page no longer contains that quote so the validity of the message is suspect.
What gives the message some credit though, is the latest FEG (Fighting and Entertainment Group) news item and Twitter post, adding a DREAM heavyweight match between “Alistair Overeem vs. X” this morning.
Overeem has already stated that he wanted to participate on the Dynamite!! 2010 card, but for the DREAM heavyweight title.
It’s quite possible that since Duffee is currently a free agent, but does have a fight booked for Jan 29th, that he could participate in the bout. If the rumor does prove true, this could be a huge PR boost for the Japanese event and would certainly see many more fans tune in for the fight.
Duffee suffered his first professional loss to Mike Russow last May at UFC 114, getting knocked out in the third round. He had been expected to face Jon Madsen at UFC 121 but a knee injury forced him out of that fight. Duffee was released by the UFC on Sept. 7th for unknown reasons.
Overeem was just crowned the 2010 K-1 World Grand Prix champion earlier this month and has fought only once in an mma bout this year. He defeated Brett Rogers in May via TKO, defending his Strikeforce title for the first time since winning the title in November of 2007.
Dynamite!! 2010 is set to take place on Dec. 31st at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The event will be broadcast live on HDNet in North America.
