(Ishi vs. Minowa announcement at 3:52)
DREAM officials announced the latest bout to the upcoming DREAM.16 event, an open-weight bout between Satoshi Ishi (1-1) vs. Ikuhisa “Minowaman” Minowa (46-30-8).
DREAM.16 will take place on Sept. 25 from the Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya, Japan and the event will air live on HDNet in North America early Saturday morning.
Former Olympic Judo Gold medalist, Ishi, will make his DREAM debut at the event. He earned his first professional mma victory against Tafa Misipati at a X-plosion: New Zealand vs. Japan event in New Zealand in May. While losing his pro debut to Hidehiko Yoshida at the Dynamite!! 2009 event on Dec. 31, 2009. Ishi is under contract with World Victory Road and is on loan to DREAM for the event.
Minowa is riding a five fight win streak, which includes winning the DREAM Super Hulk Grand Prix last year. He earned a submission win over Imani Lee by sinking in a rear-naked-choke in the first round of their DREAM.14 bout.
Minowa had been scheduled to face James Thompson at the event but poor buzz concerning the fight forced DREAM officials to look for a new opponent. A number of News sites talked with Thompson`s camp who said the promotion was looking for a new opponent but would ensure his payout regardless.
