Less than a week after Weili Zhang’s monumental win at UFC Shenzhen, Brendan Schaub had this to say about the UFC strawweight division.

History was made last weekend during the UFC’s debut event in Shenzhen, China. Rising contender Weili Zhang dethroned Jessica Andrade via first-round stoppage, making her the first UFC champion out of China.

Even UFC president Dana White was left in awe of how Zhang “looked like one of the most vicious women on planet Earth” that night. Former UFC heavyweight fighter Brendan Schaub, however, was left unimpressed.

“People are Tweeting me saying ‘Oh what’s up now Schaub, didn’t call Zhang over Jessica Andrade,’” he said in a recent episode of his Below the Belt podcast (via BJPenn.com). “I sure didn’t! Or in the [replies to the] post about my son [people were saying] ‘Oh where the f—k were you on Zhang vs. Andrade?’

“Dude, let me be super clear. Not only did I not watch it, I don’t give a f—k about women’s strawweight. I didn’t even watch it, and when someone told me [what happened] I said ‘That’s cool man.’”

But right before Zhang’s historic win, Schaub had this to say about the 115-pound division.

“Now strawweight is probably – besides men’s 155 (pounds) – is probably the best division going right now, as far as competition, as far as relevant fighters. 170, men’s welterweight division, 155, men’s division, lightweight, and then women’s strawweight is probably third. It’s in the top three.”

The UFC’s strawweight division is indeed a talent-filled weight class. The next notable fight at 115 pounds is the upcoming clash between former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Michelle Waterson, which takes place on October 12th in Tampa, Florida.
