Scotland’s Joanne Calderwood meets Bec Rawlings at UFC Fight Night 72 in Glasgow

Joanne Calderwood will be fighting in her home country for the first time in July.

The UFC announced on Friday that “Jo Jo” is scheduled to return to the Octagon at the promotion’s first trip to Glasgow on July 18, facing Rawlings in a strawweight clash at the SSE Hydro Arena.

Calderwood vs. Rawlings was originally booked for Invicta FC 4 in 2013, but the Australian strawweight ended up replacing injured Claudia Gadelha against then champion Carla Esparza in the main event, a fight she lost via unanimous decision.

TUF 20 contestant Calderwood (9-1) was close to a shot at the UFC title after beating Seo Hee Ham in her promotional debut, but suffered a surprising 90-second armbar loss to Maryna Moroz in April.

Rawlings (6-4), who went winless at TUF 20, dropped a decision to Heather Clark at the season finale event, but bounced back to the win column with a first-round submission over Lisa Ellis earlier this month.

A main event has yet to be announced for UFC Fight Night 72. The card will feature two other Scottish athletes, with Rob Whiteford and Stevie Ray facing Paul Redmond and Leonardo Mafra Teixeira, respectively.
