The TUF Brazil finalist was on a three-fight losing streak inside the Octagon.
In perhaps unsurprising news, Sergio Moraes’ run in the UFC is over.
MMA Fighting reported on Monday that the Brazilian welterweight has been released by the promotion after his third-round KO loss to James Krause at UFC Sao Paulo earlier this month. Moraes is currently on a three-fight losing streak, with the Krause bout representing arguably the worst performance of his UFC tenure.
A runner-up in the middleweight tournament of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil season one, Moraes (14-6-1) immediately returned down to welterweight and embarked on a run of 6-0-1 over a five-year span. The 37-year-old’s unbeaten streak ended with a brutal KO loss to current welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
After getting past Tim Means and submitting Ben Saunders, it all unraveled for Moraes. He lost a unanimous decision to Anthony Rocco Martin, followed that up with a one-sided KO to Warlley Alves, and was thoroughly picked apart by Krause on his way to another knockout. This is the only losing skid he’s had in his entire career, and it’s cost him his spot on the UFC roster.
The multi-time jiu-jitsu world champion heads into the next chapter of his career with a UFC record of 8-5-1.
