Conor McGregor’s removal from UFC 303 later this month is officially a done deal, but fight fans still don’t know the details about the injury that knocked “Notorious” out of commission.
Despite his overall inactivity and less-than-desirable layoff, McGregor is as dependable as they come after signing the dotted line. Not only is he the best self-promoter the UFC roster has to offer, but the former UFC double champion will always show up when it’s time to fight. McGregor has even accepted short-notice opponent changes on more than one occasion.
That is probably why fight fans were so bummed so learn of McGregor’s UFC 303 withdrawal and delayed returned to the Octagon. The last time McGregor competed was all the way back in July 2021 so it’s been quite some time since fight fans witnessed his skills inside of the cage. McGregor was excited to return, fight fans were eager to witness it, and UFC was about to cash in on a record-setting $20 million gate because of it.
As of now, the details regarding McGregor’s injury remain unknown. Per reports, it’s not too severe and “Notorious” could make his return as early as August. But with little information about the significance of the injury fight fans are sort of being left in the dark (just like most of this week).
On Friday, a photo surfaced on Instagram that appears to show McGregor with an apparent leg injury. McGregor isn’t using crutches or anything like that, but he is wearing compression socks and his leg does seem to be engorged. Check it out below:
While it’s unknown exactly what is happening with McGregor’s leg, former UFC middleweight champion and current color commentator, Michael Bisping, has inside information that the injury is on the same leg “Notorious” broke against Poirier three years ago. Bisping recently spoke to John McCarthy about the issue and had the following to say:
Michael Bisping says that John McCarthy told him that Conor McGregor’s injury is in the same leg he broke in the Dustin Poirier fight:
“[John] told me on no uncertain terms… [Conor] is injured, he’s hurt himself. His leg, the leg that he broke that snapped against Dustin… pic.twitter.com/lY6K5WexaH
