Sorry Reyes, Jones Feeling Like ‘Popping Some Cherries In Poland’

It looks like Dominick Reyes may have been right in saying UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones is the only obstacle in the way for a potential rematch.

Jones, who ran into legal issues late last month, defeated Reyes via unanimous decision at UFC 247 earlier this year. Despite the five-round title defense, many believe Jones actually lost the fight and Reyes deserves to be holding the 205-pound belt.

Since seeing his first UFC title shot slip away on the judges’ scorecards Reyes has been heavily lobbying for a rematch with “Bones.” While his efforts are warranted and seem to have convinced UFC brass, Jones isn’t exactly taking the bait.

Instead, Jones continues to set his sights on surging light heavyweight contender Jan Blachowicz, who solidified his title shot worth with a recent TKO finish over Corey Anderson (see it HERE). Jones sent a message to the masses last night via Twitter, suggesting he is done with Reyes and would rather go pop some cherries in Poland, which of course is the home country of Blachowicz.

“Now suddenly I’m afraid of a good dogfight? Pretty sure I walked him down for 25 minutes straight when we fought. One thing about being the champion of the world, you got to search for fresh meat on every soil. I’m feeling like popping some in Poland, haven’t had that yet,” wrote Jones.

Reyes was quick to respond, sending the following Instagram message to Jones:

“As you can clearly see here I am being viciously walked down!” wrote Reyes.

While many of us would love to see Jones run it back against Reyes, seeing as he gave the champ serious trouble in their first meeting, the prospect of “Bones” matching up against the one-punch power of Blachowicz is very interesting. Jones has handled himself against knockout artists like Alexander Gustafsson and Thiago Santos, but Blachowicz has discovered something special over the past few bouts and seems like a man on a mission.

That said, UFC could very well decide to book Jones vs. Reyes 2 and let Blachowicz capture one more win inside of the Octagon. But with a 7-1 record in his last eight UFC appearances, which includes five post-fight bonuses and four equally-impressive finishes, it may be hard to deny Blachowicz his spot, especially if Jones is willing to take the show on the road to Poland.

As UFC begins to open up shop starting May 9 fight fans should start hearing some news about Jones’ next opponent. The champion obviously has to serve out his current plea deal before he steps back into the cage, but “Bones” could end up fighting twice more in 2020. We just don’t know which top contender is up next.
