UFC women’s featherweight Felicia Spencer welcomes a new face in her return to the Octagon.
Former UFC title challenger Felicia Spencer is returning to the Octagon in May and will be welcoming a UFC newcomer in Danyelle Wolf. Cole Shelton of BJPENN.com first reported the fight has already been verbally agreed upon by both women, but contracts have yet to be signed. They are expected to be finalized in the upcoming weeks.
Spencer last competed in June 2020 at UFC 250, where she challenged for the women’s featherweight championship against current champion, Amanda Nunes. Spencer would come up short in her first title bid in the UFC, losing by way of unanimous decision.
Before the loss to Nunes, Spencer alternated between wins and losses since her arrival in the promotion in 2019. The former Invicta Fighting Championship champion made her debut against Megan Anderson, who she submitted in the first-round with a rear-naked choke at UFC Fight Night: dos Anjos vs. Lee. She then met former title holder Cris Cyborg two months later at UFC 240 and lost a unanimous decision after three rounds of fighting.
Spencer rebounded with a technical knockout over Zarah Fairn dos Santos at UFC Fight Night: Benavidez vs. Figueiredo in February.
Wolf is a three-time national boxing champion who was poised to compete in the Olympics before her weight class was eliminated from trials in 2012 and 2016 respectively. She tried again in 2020, but the Olympics was cancelled for that year and Wolf decided to focus on MMA.
Her first professional opportunity came on an episode of Dana White’s Contender Series in September where she took on Taneisha Tennant and earned a unanimous decision. Wolf was one of three fighters to earn UFC contracts on that night.
The Fight Night event that Spencer vs. Wolf is planned for does not have a location or venue at this time. The card is still in its early stages of being created, with just one fight between Raulian Paiva and David Dvorak scheduled.
