Khabib Nurmagomedov once again put his dominance on full display at UFC 229, defeating former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) “champ-champ,” Conor McGregor, via fourth-round submission on Oct. 6, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
With the exception of round three, “The Eagle” pretty much had his way with “Notorious,” improving his immaculate record to 27-0, 11-0 inside the Octagon. Now, former UFC Welterweight and Middleweight champion Georges St-Pierre wants to be the first person to hand Khabib a defeat.
“I always say that the thing that excites me the most is when I could be the first to do something, you know? When something can’t be done and people doubt me or say it’s impossible to do or you can never do it,” explained “Rush” when asked what fight interests him most at the moment during an appearance on The Ariel Helwani MMA Show.
UFC president Dana White, though, isn’t too interested in allowing St-Pierre to fight for another division title and bolt, much like like he did after defeating Michael Bisping for the 185-pound strap (see why here).
If White had a change of heart, a showdown against Khabib would give the French-Canadian superstar the opportunity to become the first-ever fighter to win three separate titles in as many divisions
“He’s a great champion and in terms of legacy. I can’t think of a better man, a fighter right now who has a better legacy than Khabib in terms of popularity and legacy,” he added. “If you look at the real fighters, not only as to who sells the most, but in terms of who’s the real pound-for-pound fighter, I think he ranks right up there.”
Still, Georges isn’t 100-percent sure he will ever return to action, saying he is financially set and doesn’t need to fight for coin. As for Khabib, he only has one man in his sights at the moment, as “The Eagle” wants to end his combat sports career after he settles his unfinished business with Tony Ferguson.
Assuming he even fights at all.
