He may not be excited about it, but Dustin Poirier does see a world where he and Conor McGregor scrap for a fourth and final time.
Dustin Poirier isn’t ruling out a fourth fight with Conor McGregor, even if “The Diamond” clearly isn’t excited about the prospect right now.
Poirier had recently written off another bout against “The Notorious,” saying that ship had sailed and he didn’t need that kind of negative energy in his life. Fair enough given the sleazy things McGregor said about his wife leading up to their last bout.
But Dustin softened his stance a bit in a new interview with ESPN Radio where he admitted there was a chance the match could come together.
“It could, if the stars align,” he said. “But it just feels [pointless] even talking about it.”

“After going through the rivalry with him for so many years, and fighting him back to back in 2021,” Poirier said. “As I prepare to get ready for a fight week for the undisputed belt, and he’s fighting a guy whose last fight I choked him out. It just feels so far removed, and so many things have to happen before then.”
“So I’ll just focus on right now, and that’s Islam Makhachev.”
There’s no doubt in our minds that if Poirier beats Makhachev at UFC 302 and McGregor beats Chandler at UFC 303, the two will have to meet again before the end of the year for a final fight to conclude their rivalry.
Sure, Dustin Poirier is 2-1 over Conor McGregor. But that second win came off McGregor breaking his leg in half. There’s cause for a fourth fight to settle things, and more importantly, a whole lot of money to be made.
The path back to Poirier vs. McGregor isn’t as far fetched as Dustin would have us believe, but he’s certainly taking the right attitude putting it out of his mind until he deals with the task at hand: beating Islam Makhachev for the 155 pound belt on June 1st.
