A heavyweight bout for the UFC’s first trip to Fuel TV is in the works as the ‘Skyscraper’ Stefan Struve (22-5) and Dave ‘Pee Wee’ Herman (21-2) have verbally agreed to meet at the upcoming February event.
News of the bout surfaced at MMAWeekly.com on Wednesday, who learned of the matchup through sources close to the matchup.
UFC on Fuel TV 1 is expected to take place on February 15th at CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. The only bout mentioned for the event is a welterweight matchup between Jake Ellenberger vs. Diego Sanchez.
Struve bounced back from a loss this past May by earning a second round submission win over Pat Barry in October at UFC on Versus 6. The mismatched fighters, Struve is 6ft 11in and Barry is listed as 5ft 11in, put in a spirited affair but Barry’s one dimensional striking game wasn’t able to overcome his opponents reach and finally succombed to a triangle choke at 3:22 of the first. The victory puts ‘Skyscraper’ at 6-3 overall in the Octagon.
Herman debuted with the UFC last June, taking on fellow Octagon newcomer Jon Olav Einemo on the pay-per-view card of UFC 131, a rarity with the promotion. After one-and-a-half rounds of both fighters slugging it out, Herman would finish the bout at 3:19 of the second to earn his third straight victory as well as the “Fight of the Night” bonus. ‘Pee Wee’ is a well traveled heavyweight with victories under Bellator, World Victory Road, Shark Fights, and the defunct EliteXC promotion.
