A welterweight bout was added to November’s upcoming UFC 154 event between Karate phenom Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson (6-1) and Swedish based Besam Yousef (6-1).
The match was announced Tuesday night during FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight” program.
UFC 154 is expected to to take place on November 17, 2012 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The event will likely feature a welterweight title unification bout between champion Georges St-Pierre and interim title holder Carlos Condit.
Both fighters suffered their first pro-loss inside the Octagon in their last outing and will look to put on a good show to avoid a pink slip from the UFC.
Thompson lost a one sided decision to Matt Brown at UFC 145, and despite ‘Wonderboy’s’ striking prowess he was unable to stop Brown’s takedowns throughout the bout. It was the first loss for Thompson who debuted in the Octagon in February, earning a “Knockout of the Night” bonus for his head kick KO of Dan Stittgen at UFC 143.
Yousef debuted in the Octagon in April at UFC on FUEL TV 2, tapping out in the second round to a rear-naked choke from Simeon Thoresen at the Swedish event. It was Yousef’s first loss after six straight victories, which included winning and defending, the Zone FC welterweight title, a local promotion in Sweden.
