The Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Final is expected to take place on May 19, 2012 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The main card will air on SHOWTIME while the prelim card will air on Showtime Extreme. This match between Cavalcante and Vallie-Flagg should take place on the prelim portion of the event.

Cavalcante is 1-1-1 in his last three matches, earning a split decision victory over former KOTC champ Bobby Green last July at the Fedor vs. Henderson event. The other two results in that run include a “No Contest” (an accidental eye poke) versus Justin Wilcox, and a decision loss to Josh Thomson in October 2010.

Vallie-Flagg debuted with Strikeforce last June, earning a split decision over Brian Melancon at the Overeem vs. Werdum event in a 175-lbs catchweight bout. Vallie-Flagg had been scheduled to face Green last November but was forced to pull out of the event. He is currently on a ten-bout undefeated streak dating back to October 2007.
