In his first fight since losing the belt to Luke Rockhold, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza faced off against Strikeforce newcomer, Bristol Marunde.
Marunde looked outclassed throughout the entire fight with Jacare dominating most of the early going.
Jacare looked good in his return and finally put on the finishing touches in the third round to win by arm-triangle choke.
What we’ll remember about this fight:
Marunde put up a good fight to try and keep Souza from finishing him.
What we learned about Jacare Souza:
Souza looked good although he had a couple chances to finish off Marunde. Since it was his first fight back since his title loss, he looks ready to get the belt back from Rockhold.
What we learned about Bristol Marunde:
Marunde drew the short end of the stick here having to face someone of Jacare’s caliber in his Strikeforce debut. Marunde looked like a first timer against the obviously higher classed Jacare.
What’s next for Jacare:
If Derek Brunson can get his eye exam all figured out, I think he should get another crack at facing Jacare. If not, I don’t think there really is anybody for Jacare outside of Tim Kennedy or a shot at Rockhold’s belt.
What’s next for Marunde:
I think Marunde has some potential if you build him up against fighters at his level first. I think he should get one more shot but against someone just entering their first fight in Strikeforce on a “Challengers” card.
