Women’s MMA took a step forward Saturday night with two exciting fights. The main event featuring bantamweight titleholder Miesha Tate against the challenger, Ronda Rousey, didn’t disappoint.
Rousey did an excellent job utilizing her judo techniques to get Tate in an armbar twice during the one round the fight lasted.
Tate was able to shake off the first attempt, though it did look like her arm suffered some damage. The next time though, Rousey cranked on the arm hard and looked like she did some serious damage to the arm of Tate, forcing her to tap out.
If you watch footage of this fight, please be warned it can disgust you. Unless you’re desensitized like me, then go all in.
What we’ll remember about this fight:
Seeing an arm get bent at a 90-degree angle in the wrong direction. If you don’t remember that, then you’re a lucky soul.
What we learned about Miesha Tate:
She has heart, but got beat bad by the ground game of Rousey.
What we learned about Ronda Rousey:
She is for real. I think her striking needs a lot of work, but who needs that when you can take people down and submit them at will?
What’s next for Tate:
Alexis Davis seems like a nice fight for her to help her bounce back into title contention.
What’s next for Rousey:
A date with Sarah Kaufman awaits Rousey. Judging by Kaufman’s reaction after the submission, she doesn’t look to be too thrilled.
