Miesha Tate and Ronda Rousey were supposed to be the talk of women’s MMA tonight, but Sarah Kaufman and Alexis Davis could have very well have stolen the spotlight.
Davis and Kaufman put on an epic back-and-forth battle that showcased every facet of the two females’ skillsets.
Unfortunately for Davis, the upset was not in her cards tonight, and she lost by majority decision.
If Tate and Rousey can put on a show, women’s MMA could have gotten a huge push tonight with two excellent fights on a major Strikeforce card.
What we’ll remember about this fight:
This fight was perhaps one of the best women’s fights I have ever seen. Both fighters from the gate came to fight, and it could possibly overshadow Tate versus Rousey tonight.
What we learned about Sarah Kaufman:
Kaufman can stand and trade if she wants to give the fans an interesting fight. She can stand there and take shots, which I think opens up her game a little more than the usual takedown and hold on for dear life tactics she has shown in the past.
What we learned about Alexis Davis:
Davis has some serious striking ability and showed some good ground tactics and almost stole the show from Kaufman. In the thin ranks of women’s MMA, Davis could see herself in the title picture with a win in her next fight after tonight’s performance.
What’s next for Kaufman:
Kaufman is obviously the next in line for a shot at the belt after being jumped by Rousey. Its her belt and she wants it back.
What’s next for Davis:
I think her fight tonight warrants her fighting either Tate or Rousey depending on who loses the title fight.
