Miesha Tate and Marion Reneau faced off in a women’s Bantamweight clash tonight (Sat., July 17, 2021) at UFC Vegas 31 from UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. In a strong showing, Tate secured the late stoppage (watch it).

The two exchanged early, but neither landed much. Tate dug to the lead leg. Tate wound up big on a right hand, and it glanced off the chin. Hard low kick scored for Reneau. Tate scored with a clean check hook. Reneau fired a pair of rights. Tate attacked the double leg, but Reneau avoided the trip and defended along the fence. Tate looked crisp on the feet, and she landed a couple rights before returning to the takedown. This time, Tate landed in top position, though Reneau attempted to throw up a triangle.

Tate finished the first round in top position.

Reneau opened the second with a nice front kick, but Tate resumed her pressure with kicks of her own. Double jab for “Cupcake!” Clean right hand scored for Reneau, then the women exchanged heavy shots. Strong double leg takedown scored for Tate, despite a clear fence grab. Reneau started searching for the kimura, but Tate patiently waited it out and landed some elbows to the body. Tate landed a hard elbow, and Reneau started bleeding quite a bit. By the end of the round, Tate had landed several clean ground strikes that definitely did damage.

Tate continued strong into the third, scoring a stiff jab before changing levels into another takedown attempt. It took some effort, but Tate finished the trip. Tate secured the two-on-one ride and started pounding away! Reneau gave up mount, but the strikes kept coming, and the referee called the bout!

Tate made a statement with this win, returning in style by becoming the first woman to finish Reneau. Even better, Tate showed genuine improvement in her stand up, allowing her to put together a very complete victory.

Result: Miesha Tate defeats Marion Reneau via third-round technical knockout
