A welterweight bout between season nine “TUF” finalist DaMarques ‘The Darkness’ Johnson (15-9) and UFC sophomore John ‘The One’ Maguire (17-3) appears to be in the works for the Ultimate Fighting Championships first trip to Sweden.
News of the matchup was first announced by Heavy.com, who learned of the bout through sources close to the fight, saying the event will likely take place in April.
The event has not been officially announced, but the UFC on FUEL TV 2 show is expected to take place on April 14 at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden. The bout between Johnson and Maguire is the first bout identified for the card.
Johnson (pictured) showed off some excellent striking in his last fight by finishing Clay Harvison by first round knockout at the UFC on FOX 1 event this past November. The win put the ‘Darkness’ back into the win column after losing via submission (strikes) to Amir Sadollah at UFN 24 in March. Johnson stepped in on two weeks notice against Sadollah, replacing an injured James Wilks at the Seattle, Washington event. Since debuting with the UFC in June 2009, Johnson has gone 4-3 in the Octagon.
Marguire is currently riding a six fight win streak, which includes winning his UFC debut in November at UFC 138. The English fighter earned a decision win over Justin Edwards at the Birmingham, England show. Previous to his debut, ‘The One’ had defended his UCMMA welterweight title three straight times.
