The anticipated boxing match between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson turned in a monumental gate earlier tonight (Fri., Nov. 15, 2024) LIVE on Netflix from inside AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Tex., bringing in roughly $18 million in event ticket sales.

This is according to a Friday night press release by Most Valuable Promotions (MVP), which states the Netflix super fight set the Texas combat sports gate record by surpassing $17.8 million. That’s nearly double the $9 million gate that Canelo Alvarez pulled in opposite Billy Joe Saunders back in 2021.

Check out the official release below:

The turnout is a bit surprising considering there was a massive price cut for ‘Paul vs. Tyson’ tickets just a few weeks ago. It looked like the event wasn’t going to quite stack up to overall expectations, but a $18 million gate is absolutely massive, especially when you consider Tyson is 58 years of age and hasn’t fought professionally in nearly 20 years.

I guess Tyson’s pre-fight slap boosted some of those last-minute sales.

In addition to shattering the combat sports gate record in the state of Texas, the ‘Paul vs. Tyson’ Netflix event stacks up against most other PPV cards in boxing and mixed martial arts (MMA). Per the report, ‘Paul vs. Tyson’ is now the “biggest boxing gate outside of Las Vegas in U.S. history in terms of revenue.” It’s also a larger gate than any UFC event held outside of Las Vegas (excluding Conor McGregor’s massive UFC 205 turnout in New York City).

All in all, Friday’s spectacle on Netflix can be considered a success despite the main card still playing out. Not all fight fans agreed that Tyson should be fighting someone half his age, but the masses still turned out in waves and really packed out the AT&T Stadium. We’ll see if “Iron Mike” can get it done in front of 70,000 people and finally put a stop to Jake Paul.
