Ricardo Lamas never held a UFC title and probably won’t be appearing in the promotion’s hall of fame, but “The Bully” spent a good chunk of his career in the featherweight Top 5 and helped his WEC brethren usher in a new era of combat sports.
Now it’s time to call it quits.
Lamas told MMA Junkie Radio that his “Fight of the Night” performance against Bill Algeo at UFC Vegas 8 would be the last of his professional career, one that started back in early 2008, as part of a promise he made to his late brother.
Lamas, now 38, dropped to featherweight for his UFC debut victory over Matt Grice back in June 2011 and eventually worked his way up to a title shot against Jose Aldo at UFC 169, but was unable to “expose” the Brazilian in the five-round co-main event.
The 20-8 Lamas holds submission wins over the likes of Cub Swanson and Charles Oliveira, just to name a few.
