With a middleweight rematch versus Alessio Sakara scrapped after ‘Legionarius’ was instructed not to due to kidney illness, Canadian fighter Patrick ‘The Predator’ Côté (18-8) will move ahead with a plan to drop down to 170-lbs for his next fight.

According to Côté it’s been something he’s been thinking bout for awhile and with no reason to stay at 185-lbs for the rematch with Sakara he’s ready to make that drop.

“We’ve been thinking about it since about a year now. I think now it’s the time,” Cote told MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday. “I was a pretty decent middleweight a couple years ago, but now those guys are really, really big. They’re cutting from like 230, 225, and I’m walking around at 205 so I spoke with my coach and my nutritionist and it’s doable so we’re going to do it.”

Côté and Sakara squared off last month at UFC 154 with the bout ending via first round disqualification after the match was stopped due to illegal strikes to the back of Côté’s head. UFC president Dana White had promised to rebook the fight which was announced for March’s UFC 158 card in Montreal, but will obviously not take place due to Sakara’s health issues.
