With former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley out of commission with an injured hand, Robbie Lawler is in need of a new opponent for UFC on ESPN 3 on June 29 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Luckily, the promotion has plenty of time to find a suitable replacement for “Chosen One,” who recently relinquished his 170-pound crown in a decision loss to current champion Kamaru Usman back at UFC 235 in March.
Throwing his name into the cage for a potential clash with “Ruthless” on big ESPN is none other than former welterweight title challenger Darren Till, who is willing to step up on six weeks notice against Lawler as long as the contest is held at 175 pounds.
Yes @Ruthless_RL I’ll meet you at 175 in 6 weeks for a tear up
Yeno wa time it is— Darren Till (@darrentill2) May 17, 2019
“Yes @Ruthless_RL I’ll meet you at 175 in 6 weeks for a tear up. Yeno wa time it is,” wrote Till via Twitter.
Remember, Till has had difficulty cutting down to 170 pounds in the past. So even though he’s ready to jump into camp for a fight with a former UFC champion, “Gorilla” doesn’t seem too confident about his ability to successfully, and safely, drop the lbs..
Till, 26, is coming off a vicious knockout loss to Jorge Masvidal back at UFC on ESPN+ 5 this past March in front of his home crowd of England. Before that, he suffered his first professional loss when he was submitted by Woodley in a welterweight title fight at UFC 228 last September.
While Till has recently been making headlines for his out-of-cage actions rather than his promising fighting ability, UFC may still entertain a matchup between the brash Englishman and Lawler. After all, Till would gladly stand and bang with “Ruthless” in what would be a wonderfully exciting clash on the ESPN network.
