Looking past the persona, Darren Till praises Colby Covington’s skills as a fighter.

It can be said that Colby Covington is one of the most hated fighters in MMA today. “Chaos” managed to make a long list of enemies over the course of a couple of years, breaking friendships in the process.

And while other fighters made things personal with Covington, Darren Till isn’t one of them.

“I’m just not as stupid as everyone else. It’s just an act,” Till said during a UFC 244 pre-fight scrum.

“If you hear the conversations I have with my friends, you’d know that stuff like what he says really couldn’t affect me,” he continued. “I just know that’s just an act. Obviously for the fans and building fights up, it’s great. But as a fighter, if you take what he says personal, you’ve got a lot of issues with yourself.”

“The Gorilla” went on to praise Covington for his skills, looking past the persona.

“People hate Colby so much and take what he says so personal, they just want (Kamaru) Usman to win,” he said. “They’re not looking at Colby. Colby is actually a terrific fighter.

“Forget all the f—ng bullsh-t he says, because he’s just an idiot. He’s actually a terrific fighter.”

Till will make his middleweight debut against Kelvin Gastelum at UFC 244 on November 2nd at Madison Square Garden.
